Music Vs is an initiative run as a student club in universities and high schools around the world. Our goal is to use the universal languages of the arts in order to facilitate inter-generational conversation and forge lasting relationships with the elderly and ill.
Founded in 2011, we're now blessed to have branches in over 30 universities and high schools across 4 continents which range in the scope and diversity of their student bodies. By uniting students across the world to bring their unique talents to those in desperate need of joy and companionship, we hope to enhance the manner in which people visit those fighting illnesses, while uniting thousands to make acts of kindness a daily part of their schedules.
How does it work? Events are held for approximately one hour at a local nursing home, hospital, or private home of an elderly person living within the community. The first 20 minutes are usually allocated to playing music, singing, and dancing. The music cheers up the residents, and also enables them to acclimate to our presence. This greatly enhances our ability to engage them in dialogue for the rest of the visit.
Not a musician? No Problem! Although musical accompaniment enhances our events, we allot much of our time to conversing with the members of our audience. The music is just used as as a means to help ease our participants into conversation.
